The Banner project, the replacement for Western's current administrative system and one of the university's major initiatives, is making significant progress with the Advancement module going live on January 18.
Any migration to a new system brings apprehension for both the administrative office and Information Technology division. Have we covered all our bases? Have we defined our systems to work the best for us? Has our data migrated correctly? Will we be able to complete our jobs? Will our interfaces work? What about reporting? With Banner all of these questions are compounded because it is a totally integrated system with all offices sharing data ? shared validation tables, shared person data, shared majors, shared departments, etc.
In speaking in anticipation of the "go live" date,
Debbie Higdon, the functional lead for the Advancement module
said, "This has truly been a collaborative effort on
our campus and we are excited and yet apprehensive about the
January 18th "go live" date. We have looked
forward to the move to Banner Advancement since it will provide
important additional functionality as a management tool and
will enable the Development office to better manage their
strategic and day-to-day activities."
Personnel in the areas of finance, student affairs, financial aid and human resources are involved in collaborative efforts, training sessions and defining validation tables and rules in preparation for campus training and migrations scheduled through January 2007.
