Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) and WCU

In October 2007 Apple, Inc. announced the release of Leopard, its biggest operating system upgrade yet with over 300 new features. The Division of Information Technology began testing immediately and after months of working in the new operating system, we are confident in our ability to support Leopard on campus
Effective March 31, 2008, the Division of Information Technology will officially begin supporting Mac OS 10.5: Leopard on university owned desktop and laptop computers.

Why Leopard?
  • Boot Camp: Need to run an application that only runs on Windows? Now you can run windows natively on your mac with Boot Camp. The Boot Camp Assistant will help you prepare your hard drive to install and run your choice of Windows. All you need is Leopard and a legitimate copy of Windows.
  • Time Machine: Tired of doing weekly backups? With Time Machine backing up your computer is as simple as plugging in an external hard drive (not included) and saying "Yes" when it asks you if you want it to be your backup drive.
  • Finder: Utilizing the look of the popular music program iTunes, the new Finder has an iTunes like feel with the new sidebar and the ability to flip through your files in Cover Flow.
  • Quick Look: View the contents of a file without ever opening it. Watch video, flip through documents, and view presentations all without ever opening the file.
How Can I Get Leopard?
The Division of Information Technology will begin fielding requests to upgrade university owned Mac's to Leopard after May 11, 2008. Requests can be made by contacting the Client Services Help Desk at 227-7487.

The Division of Information Technology does not guarantee all applications used on the WCU network will either work or be fully supported under Leopard. If you have a question about an application that is not listed please call the Client Services Help Desk at 227-7487 or visit the software vendor's web site for information about Leopard compatibility.
