JumpStart Curriculum Outline
For Fall 2004

JumpStart is a training session that all incoming students must attend which orients them with the campus computing resources. JumpStart also gives students an opportunity to work hands-on with their new university accounts such as e-mail, web space, and file sharing.

  • Username
  • Password
  • Practical e-mail skills
    • Setting up software to collect messages from your other e-mail accounts
    • Reading e-mail
    • Composing e-mail
    • Deleting e-mail
    • Attaching files to e-mail messages

Student web pages

  • All undergraduate students have web space provided free of charge
  • Creating a web page with Netscape Composer
  • Connecting to the web server (username & password)
  • Adding or deleting files from account

WebCT Orientation
WebCT (World Wide Web Course Tools) allows both online instructors and allows both instructors and learners to tap into the power of the World Wide Web in order to access information and to communicate with each other. In this brief orientation, students get a quick look at the following tools and how to use/manage them:

  • Logging into course
  • Reading online course materials and assignments
  • Using course-specific e-mail
  • Posting to a course bulletin board
  • Taking online quizzes
  • Accessing multimedia presentations over the Internet
  • Communicating with content expert guests
  • Utilizing the Chat rooms
