General Office Activities (Publications, presentations, research, service)

  1. How can I get help with presentations for meetings, conferences, etc.?
    1. Call the Help Desk at 7487 for a consultation referral.
    2. Call the Print Shop (7159) about what publishing file formats they accept.
  2. How can I reserve a meeting room or other facility?
    Facility Reservations are transitioning to an online format. For 2003/2004, please refer to the following contact list for more information.
    • University Center rooms: call 7215 for reservations. There is a charge for setting up tables, etc.
    • Ramsey Center: call Laura Sellers (7677). There is no charge for using these facilities unless it is a moneymaking event. If the event involves food, you must use campus-catering services (3969).
    • The Outreach Center: call Distance and Continuing Education (7397). There is a charge for use of these facilities.
    • HFR Room 510 or 540 conference rooms: call the Chancellor’s Office (7100).
    • HFR Room 350 conference room: call Administration and Finance (7323). * Mountain Heritage Center Auditorium: call the office at (7219).
    • Classrooms and meeting rooms: see the Dean’s Office in the individual college.
    • The Faculty Center multi-purpose room, Hunter 240, may be reserved by calling Jane Kneller (7196). There is no charge for the use of this room.
    • There are 2 non-traditional classrooms, one in Helder Hall and one in Leatherwood Hall. They will seat up to 20 people in a casual setting with Ethernet availability. TV/VCR, whiteboard and podium are available upon request. There are some additional conference areas available in the residence halls. Call the main housing office for reservations (7303). Housing will contact the Resident Director of the hall about availability and have them contact you.
    • Alumni House or Guest House: call Cindy McGill for daytime use (3035) or Christy Ashe for overnight use (7103).
    • Picnic Area: contact Jill Lindsay in the University Center at (7215).
    • University Club: contact Elaine Hyatt at (7206).
  3. How can I reserve a university vehicle online?
    Make sure to obtain a travel authorization prior to making reservations. Then request the vehicle(s) by clicking on the ‘Motor Pool Vehicle Request System’ link located at the top of the left hand column on the following website: http://admfin.wcu.edu/plant/.
  4. How do I get computers and software for my research?
    You need to include in grant proposals computer related funding, e.g., hardware, software licenses, pay for use of WCU resources (computers, storage, staff time) etc. For questions, contact Judy Revere (3177) or Elizabeth Haynes (2921) Grants Management, Research & Graduate Studies.
  5. What statistical programs are being used at WCU and which are centrally licensed?
    Statistical programs currently being used on-campus are SAS - version 9 for Windows 98/2000/XP, SAS for MAC OS 9 (available upon request), SPSS 12 for Windows 98/2000/XP, and Minitab 13+ for Windows. SAS (Statistical Analysis System) is the only program that is centrally licensed. It may also be installed on personally owned faculty, staff and student computers. Faculty and staff can check out the SAS software from IT Services. Call the Help Desk at 7487 for consultation referrals in the use of statistical programs.
  6. What additional resources are available to help with research?
    If you are interested in funded research and grants, contact Judy Revere, Coordinator of Sponsored Programs, (3177), Elizabeth Haynes (2921) Grants Management, Research & Graduate Studies.
  7. Can I use Scantron (Bubble) sheets for multiple-choice tests?
    Yes, ask the department secretary about the availability of the Scantron forms. You may take them to the main counter at IT Services (B32 Forsyth) for grading.
