Phi Beta Delta Fall Lecture Program

The Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars is collaborating with the Asheville World Affairs Council to sponsor two lectures this fall by experts in foreign policy, terrorism and energy security.

The first lecture, “American Faces the World:  The ‘Myth’ Of Security,” will be held Monday, September 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall, Coulter Building, on the Western Carolina University Campus. Dr. Glenn Palmer will discuss the subject of his new book: A Theory of Foreign Policy. His research has focused on international conflict and the relationship between domestic politics and foreign policy. Dr. Palmer is a political scientist at Pennsylvania State University. He is executive director of the Peace Science Society and editor of the quarterly journal Conflict Management and Peace Science.

On Monday, November 13, global terrorism will be the subject of analysis by Peter Probst in “Global Jihad: Challenge and Response.”  Dr. Probst, a former CIA agent, works with the Institute for the Study of Political Violence.

The Phi Beta Delta Honor Society, in collaboration with the Asheville World Affairs Council, and WCU’s  offices of International Programs and Services, Anthropology and Sociology, Political Science, History and Criminal Justice, works to advance international awareness on the WCU campus and broader community and foster Western North Carolina's global ties by encouraging public participation in national policy debates. Admission is $7.00; students and Phi Beta Delta Honor Society members are free.
