Biographical Note
Colonel Joseph Cathey was born March 12, 1803 and died June 1, 1874. He was the son of William Cathey, one of the earliest settlers in Haywood County, North Carolina. He was a farmer, miller, merchant, and a family physician. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He represented Haywood County, North Carolina in the Constitutional Convention of 1835 and in 1842 he served one term in the North Carolina State Senate.
