The Highlands Nature Center's displays include
mounts
of many native
bird and mammal species.

We also have a variety of live
animals on exhibit such as reptiles and amphibians, snails, fish, and small mammals.

Visitors
can view our working honeybee hive.

The Nature Center
also features interactive exhibits such as microscope stations, the
Touchy-Feely Box, and the Touch and Learn Table.

Another interactive
display allows visitors to look for hidden salamanders.

One exhibit
showcases the wealth of
biodiversity
found in the Southern Appalachians.

Visitors
can observe the rings of a hemlock tree that dates back to the year
1489!
The Nature Center also
features examples of native wildflowers that are currently in bloom in
our Botanical Garden, North Carolina rocks and minerals, and an
archeological exhibit with a variety of Cherokee Indian artifacts.
