Hazel Larsen Archer: Black Mountain College Photographer  

August 22 - September 30, 2006

Hazel Larsen Archer created a strikingly beautiful and historically important collection of images at Black Mountain College during the late 1940's and early 1960's. Archer captured the campus, faculty and students of the influential experamental liberal arts college.

Art that Works: The Kimmel Collection of Art and Design

September 23 - November 10, 2006

The Kimmel Collection exhibit kicks off the Fall exhibition season. This exhibit premiere includes classic examples of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, International Style arts and crafts, and Modernist furniture, glass, ceramics, paintings, photographs and sculpture, from the private collection of Joe and Cynthiua Kimmel, Asheville, North Carolina.

 Crossing Boundaries: Maintaining Traditions – Teaching Artists of the Southeast

 November 1 - December 16, 2006

Crossing Boundaries will feature provocative new work by 22 artists who also teach in colleges, universities and schools in the Southeast. Each artist creates innovative work using traditional and well as new fiber materials, concepts and processes.

Harvey K. Littleton + Friends: A Legacy of Transforming Object, Image, & Idea

November 19, 2006 - March 3, 2007

This exhibition highlights the Littleton legacy and the experimental nature of the fascinating vitreographic print making process.  Contemporary and early works by Littleton, and fifteen nationally and internationally known visiting artists in a variety of media.

Albert Kresch - Painting the Paradox of Structure and Freedom

January 23 - March 3, 2007

The Fine Art Museum at Western Carolina University will feature a series of small scale oil landscape paintings by prominent New York artist Albert Kresch. The new exhibition titled Albert Kresch: Painting the Synthesis of Structure and Freedom will begin January 23 and continue through March 3, 2007.  Albert Kresch, acclaimed first generation New York School painter, will present a gallery talk on Thursday, February 8, 6-7 p.m., with a reception for the artist to follow. The gallery talk and reception are free and open to the public.

Cleveland Rocks: The Rock and Roll Photographs of George Shuba

The Fine Art Museum collaborates with Jon Jicha, professor of art at Western, to organize the 2007 premiere and exhibit tour to the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, of classic rock and roll legends by Cleveland photographer, Geroge Shuba.
