The University Club at Western Carolina University was created in 1989 to enhance a sense of community at WCU. Its members include full- and part-time faculty, retired faculty, staff members and some community members.
The UClub sponsors a variety of events to provide social and intellectual interaction for its members and guests. Most events are free or very low-cost.
The UClub meets on Fridays at 5:00pm for an event known as TGIF. Since our former house (pictured above) was destroyed in a storm, we now meet in the Moore Building. Our TGIF get-togethers, which provide end-of-the-week relaxation with beverages, conversation, and snacks, typically end around 7:00 pm.
In addition to the TGIF, the UClub sponsors several special events throughout the academic year. Some activities have become annual traditions such as the Chili Cook-off, Oktoberfest, Oyster Roast and Robbie Burns Supper. Other activities include football tailgate parties, Mardi Gras Dinner and Wine and Scotch Tastings.
Also, the UClub occasionally sponsors other campus or community events such as guest speakers, slide shows and discussion forums.
