UClub - The University Club

The University Club at Western Carolina University was created in 1989 to enhance a sense of community at WCU. Its members include full-and part-time faculty, retired faculty, staff members and some community members.

The UClub sponsors a variety of events to provide social and intellectual interaction for its members and guests. Most events are free or very low-cost.

In addition to the TGIF, the UClub sponsors several special events throughout the academic year. Some activities have become annual traditions such as the Chili Cook-Off, Oktoberfest, Oyster Roast, Robbie Burns Supper, and Staff Senate Scholarship Fundraiser. Other activities include football tailgate parties, Mardi Gras dinner, and a Cinco de Mayo party.

UClub meets at 416 Buzzard's Roost Rd, Cullowhee, NC 28723. The best route is to drive to the  University Print Shop on Norton Rd and then turn right on the road immediately after the print shop. It will take you uphill to the house.

What are the costs of membership?

  • Members pay regular dues of $20 per semester, which go toward maintenance, utilities and special events.
  • Occasional donations (chips, pretzels, popcorn, crackers) to the snack fund are appreciated.
  • Some special events require a modest admission charge such as $5.00, although bringing a covered dish typically waives the admission fee.

All UClub money is managed through a billing system with the Treasurer.
No money is exchanged directly at the house.
