Cynthia Cicalese, D.Sc. is a Lead Software Systems Engineer at The MITRE
Corporation in McLean, VA. Prior to taking this position, Dr. Cicalese was an
Associate Professor of Computer Science at Marymount, teaching courses across
the Computer Science curriculum. Her research interests include computer
security, distributed computing, and robotics.
Michael Clump, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Psychology at
Marymount University in Arlington, VA, where he teaches courses in research
methods and statistics. In addition, his research focuses on assessment of
students, effective learning, and effective teaching.
Janine DeWitt, Ph.D., is a Professor of Sociology at Marymount University in
Arlington, VA. She teaches introductory courses in sociology as well as upper
level courses in Social Justice and Addressing Injustice. Her research focuses
on using case studies to teach ethical reasoning.
Michael Johnston, Ph.D., became friends with his co-author (Stavros
Karageorgis) while studying sociology at UCLA. He earned an M.A. in 1994 and a
Ph.D. in 2000. Michael teaches the Sociology of Health and Introduction to
Sociology at Mercyhurst College in PA. His email address is

Stavros Karageorgis, C.Phil., was born in Slidell, LA of Greek parents
and grew up in Greece. He returned to the U.S.A. for his undergraduate studies
at Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT from which he graduated with a B.A. in
Economics and Sociology. He pursued his graduate studies at UCLA, receiving a
M.A.(1992) and a C.Phil. (ABD) (1995) in Sociology. He has been an Adjunct
Lecturer in Sociology at California State University, Northridge since 1999. He
has been teaching Sociological Theory, Social Stratification, Culture and
Personality, Family, Work, and Gender and Work classes. Email correspondence to

Karen Linstrum, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor, Counselor Educator, at
Texas A&M University-Texarkana. Having taught students in special education and
having provided therapy to children, adolescents, and families, Dr. Linstrum is
interested in learning more about the relationship between students' reading
ability and self-esteem. Dr. Linstrum has always enjoyed poetry.
Poetry,especially Koch's, became even more meaningful after the death of
Dr.Linstrum's brother, Todd.
Joe Mills, Ph.D., a faculty member at the University of North
Carolina School of the Arts, has published two collections of poetry: Angels,
Thieves and Winemakers and Somewhere During the Spin Cycle. He also has
co-written two editions of A Guide to North Carolina’s Wineries with his wife,
Danielle Tarmey, and edited a collection of essays A Century of the Marx
Brothers. He is currently working on his third volume of poems, "Love and Other
Collisions."
Kim Riordan, Ed.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of
Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth. She teaches a variety of
courses, including Introduction to Graduate Studies and Professional Development
for teacher candidates. She is also the Department’s Accreditation Director and
balances those duties with the responsibilities related to attaining tenure. She
loves her job, even if there aren’t enough hours in the week to do everything
she needs to!
Carol Roderick, Ph.D.rick, Ph.D., is a post-doctoral fellow in university teaching at
Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Her research interests are
focused on higher education and include student experiences, educational
transitions, teaching and learning, and faculty development. In addition, she
teaches online courses for the University of New Brunswick in adult education
and in learning portfolio development.
