Report a Complaint, Idea or Concern

Western Carolina University is committed to listening to all community members complaints, ideas, and concerns. In turn, it is the responsibility of each person within the University community to share their complaints, ideas, or concerns when they arise. All reports will be reviewed but all may not result in a violation. Below are various reporting forms that community members may use. Please call the Student Affairs Office at 828-227-7147 if you have a question about which form to complete.

Students with general ideas or complaints should use the following link. Examples include, but are not limited to: complaints about a class/program of study, complaints within a residence hall, ideas related to Cat-Tran, comments about Catamount Dining, recommendations for enhancing campus safety, etc.

SUBMIT AN IDEA, COMPLAINT OR ISSUE

Use this form to report potential violations of the Code of Student Conduct on or off campus involving students or recognized student organizations. Incidents may include but are not limited to: alcohol misuse, drug use, violations of Residence Life or other campus policies, physical assault, organizational misconduct, disruptive behavior, or theft. If the concern is a crime, please contact University Police at 828-227-7301 for non-emergencies and 828-227-8911 for emergencies.

REPORT A CONCERN

Students with specific information related to an alleged incident involving discrimination, harassment or intimidation of a person or group based on a protected class as defined by the University (see policies 10 and 53) should use the following link. To assist with processing information, individuals are asked to identify the "Nature of (the) report" as "Bias Report". Please note, concerns about the safety of an individual should be reported to a University administrator or the University Police immediately.

REPORT A bias incident

Students with information related to an individual who is exhibiting behaviors about which you are concerned should use the following link. Examples of these types of behaviors include but are not limited to changes in hygiene, depression, poor class attendance, threats of self-harm, etc. To assist with the processing of information, individuals are asked to identify the "Nature of (the) report" as "Student of Concern". Please note, concerns about the safety of an individual should be reported to a University administrator or the University Police immediately.

REPORT A CONCERN

In compliance with University, state, federal, and accrediting body (SACSCOC) guidelines, laws, and policies, WCU investigates all reported matters to the fullest extent possible and utilizes the information to address concerns, hold individuals and groups accountable, and enhance the comprehensive educational experience for the entire WCU community.  Students who have a complaint/concern against the University as a whole and wish to file with the Board of Governors of the University of NC, may do so using the following resources: UNC Post-Secondary Education Complaints; Student Complaint Process; and Student Complaint Form.
