Bonjour, Comment allez-vous?

Join us for this 5-week conversational or everyday French language course, where students will focus on learning basic communication, vocabulary, and cultural aspects to use for everyday life in France and French-speaking places. 

This course is suitable for people who are interested in French language and culture, or perhaps food and wine vocabulary. It doesn’t matter whether or not you have taken a French class or any other language course before enrolling in this course. Whatever the reason that you are interested in French or the French culture, you will have fun and learn a lot in this course. You will learn how to communicate in a basic way or to get around. You will learn how to greet others, introduce yourself, and ask IMPORTANT questions in French.

Dr. Malissen taught all levels of French at the high-school level before attending Appalachian State for her M.A. in French. She studied abroad in Angers, France and then continued her graduate work at the University of Alabama where she received her Ph.D. in Romance Languages with a concentration in 18th century French literature and Latin in 2003. Dr. Malissen returned to NC to work for a government contractor where she reviewed and developed a new French language program for Special Forces soldiers to be assigned to West African regions such as Senegal. She has also served as a supervisor and mentor for other language teachers for the military. 

Dr. Malissen has received numerous awards for both her academic work and teaching French to various types of students.
