Welcome to Konnichiwa!: Conversational Japanese. This course is suitable for people who are interested in Japanese language and culture. It doesn’t matter if you have never taken Japanese or any other language courses before enrolling in this course. Whatever the reason that you are interested in conversational Japanese and Japanese culture, you will have a fun in this course. You will learn to greet, introduce yourself, and ask questions in Japanese. Hiragana, Katakana for your name, and Kanji will be introduced, but you will not be tested ^o^//. Yumiko Ono is an instructor of Japanese and the Japanese program coordinator in the department of World Languages at WCU. She teaches Japanese language courses, elementary to advanced levels. She also teaches cultural courses such as Introduction to Japanese Literature in Translation, Japanese Language in Cinema, Japanese Calligraphy, Manga, Anime, and Japan. She enjoys leading three-week long Summer Travel Course in Japan: Beyond Borders with the other instructor of Japanese, Mr. Soichiro Motohashi. She holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Nihon University and B.A. in Museum Study, Museums in Japanology Curator’s Course from Rikkyo University in Japan, M.A. in Japanese Language and Literature from University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She is currently working on doctorate study in transformative educational leadership. Through her doctorate study, she is learning strategies to transform the Japanese program to foster students’ readiness to be global citizen with language and cultural competency.
