Hazardous Waste

As a generator of small amounts of Hazardous Waste the University is required to comply with Federal Standards promulgated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). These regulations cover the storage, handling and documentation of transfer of hazardous waste from the point of generation to final disposal.

Chemical Safety

All chemicals have toxic effects at some dose level for some route of exposure. It is therefore wise to minimize exposure to chemicals.

Hazard Communication

NC OSHA has adopted the "Safety and Health hazard communication Standard" for workplace chemicals and gases. The basic provisions in the Standard require chemical manufacturers to evaluate the hazards presented by the chemicals they produce and to provide safety information to employers who purchase the products.
