Current Documentation
Accommodations are not advantages. They are meant to allow equal opportunity for students with disabilities to fully participate in all aspects of campus life.
To help ensure that the accommodations provided meet the current need of an individual student, the student's most recent diagnostic statement must be no more than 3 years old.
This 3 year time period is reflective of the time period for reevaluations stated in the Individuals with Education Act: http://idea.ed.gov/explore/view/p/%2Croot%2Cdynamic%2CTopicalBrief%2C4%2C
While IDEA is K-12 legsilation, it still provides a solid educational source to follow. Also, if the reevaluation guideline is followed by K-12 institutions, students with disabilities would have documentation that meets the 3 year criterion requested by Disability Services.
If a student only has documentation older than three years, an agreement to provide temporary accommodations may be reached lasting for one semester. If the student wants to continue receiving accommodations beyond that point, he/she must provide current documentation.
