HT Faculty & Staff Professor Brown has a hospitality and tourism background with an emphasis in marketing and management. She is a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) through the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Lodging Association. Before joining the WCU faculty in 2002, Professor Brown was program coordinator for the Sports, Entertainment and Events Management Program in the Hospitality College at Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, SC. Prior to teaching, she worked in the industry as a business manager, restaurant owner, and systems analyst. She was also events coordinator at the Medical University of South Carolinas Student Wellness Center, host of the Cooper River Bridge Run and Expo. For a number of years she worked at Clemson University teaching leisure skill classes for the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism department as well as for the Books Center for the Performing Arts Community Outreach Program. She is a member of the National Parks and Recreation Association (NPRA), Society of Park and Recreation Educators (SPRE) branch as well as the International Association of Assembly Managers (IAAM). Professional
interests: include: entertainment & event management, marketing,
leadership, journalism, and teaching social dancing. Research interests include: cultural tourism and serious leisure. |
