Information
is vital to the success of an organization in today's business environment.
Managers and information specialists must now protect computer networks,
databases, telecommunications and proprietary information.
CIS 493
- Information Systems Security, an elective, is being offered
to address the key issues related to protecting
information assets. The course is designed to give students an overview
of the information systems security challenge.
Components
of the course include: a.) information security best practices,
b.) the valuation of information assets, c.) information security
assessment methodology d.) the identification of threats and system
vulnerabilities, e.) security strategy, design and architecture
f.) intrusion detection and countermeasures and g.) how to provide
information protection that assures continuity of business operations.
The course
shall also focus upon the development of information systems security
policies that should be in place for any organization.
The course
shall provide comprehensive coverage on how to protect against the
asymmetric threats faced by modern organizations. Practical information
related to incident response, documentation and recovery, legal
environment and resources for information security will be included.
