Departmental Policies to Govern the Use and Storage of Alcoholic Beverages in Management and International Business Courses Which Involve the Use of These Substances for Educational Purposes (such as cooking and tasting).

It is an objective of the Management and International Business faculty to offer experiences that give cutting edge information and enhance the students knowledge and abilities to manage food and beverage operations within the hospitality and tourism industry. The following policies will govern the use of alcoholic beverages in the appropriate classes.

  1. All alcoholic beverages will be directly supervised by the instructor in charge during classroom use.
  2. The department head will be notified in advance of the time period in which alcoholic beverages are being used in the classroom.
  3. All alcoholic beverages will be used for educational purposes only.
  4. All alcoholic beverages will be used in prescribed amounts.
  5. All alcoholic substances will be kept under lock and key when not directly supervised by the instructor in charge.
  6. The instructor in charge will be responsible for taking precautions against the over consumption of alcohol during each class period where such substances are utilized during the class.
  7. The instructor will directly supervise all consumption of and cooking with alcohol during class time.
  8. All students participating in any type of alcohol consumption will be at least 21 years of age.
  9. All students participating in any type of alcohol consumption class must present to the instructor of the class one of the following photo IDs to verify age: Drivers License, Passport or other state of federally issued ID.
  10. All students participating in any type of alcohol consumption class must provide a copy of the above age verification to the instructor.
  11. Alcoholic beverages will not be consumed outside of the context of a class whether at the regularly scheduled time or at a special times determined by the instructor in charge.
  12. The social use of alcohol will not be permitted in the classrooms.
  13. These policies will be posted in the food and beverage labs.
