University Athletics Committee
Meeting of December 1, 2008

Present: Swanger, Wilfong, Mau, Cooper, Ha, Menickelli, Gift, Swayne, Reed, Smith, Brown, Knotts, Cantler, Wooten, Grube, Boan-Lenzo, Causby

I. Approval of Minutes – Minutes from previous meeting were approved.

II. Old Business
a. Department Head Scheduling Suggestions. The draft document was discussed. Justin Menickelli suggested adding a statement about summer school. The suggestions will be shared with department heads at an upcoming Department Heads Workshop meeting.
b. Gender and Minority Equity Plan. Fred Cantler and Jennifer Brown met earlier in the semester to discuss the plan. A committee with broad participation needs to be formed. AJ Grube and Michelle Clonch were mentioned as possible committee members. Jennifer Brown will call the Gender and Minority Equity Subcommittee together in January 2009.
c. Academic Support Services Update. Jennifer Brown discussed academic support services issues.

III. New Business
a. Progress Reports for Student Athletes. The committee discussed the frequency and content of progress reports for student-athletes. The response rate was estimated to be between 20-30%. The committee discussed ideas for increasing the response rate. Jennifer Brown was asked to provide the committee with the questionnaire used to gather information from faculty. The committee will reconsider the issue at the January 2009 meeting.
b. Academic Progress Rate Update. Fred Cantler provided an update of the current APR for all WCU teams.
