Meeting Minutes

February 8, 2008

12:00 noon

 

In attendance: Susan Swanger (chair), Gibbs Knotts, Chris Cooper, Fred Cantler, Justin Menickelli, Bob Beaudet, Chip Smith, Cory Causby, Jennifer Brown, Chuck Wooten

 

Unable to attend: Dan Grube, Malcolm Abel, Elin Mickelsson, Denise Wilfong, Drew Walker, Tiffany McCoy

 

I. Administrative Items

• The minutes from the December 4, 2007 meeting were approved

 

II. Old Business

• Gibbs Knotts gave an update on the attendance policy- the policy will be reviewed by the APRC and then the Faculty Senate.

 

III. New Business

• Fred Cantler gave a report on scheduling of athletic contests and practice.
• Chip Smith schedules all football games- Fred does the remainder
• Fred commented that “…scheduling is always a challenge…”
• Fred gave the committee a “sneak peek” at the Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball schedules for 2008-09
• Fred presented the NCAA rules for practice and competition
• Some discussion took place on scheduling classes and advising student-athletes
• Justin Menickelli inquired about the best time for classes for student-athletes.
• Jennifer Brown suggested from 8:00am-12:00pm
• Chris Cooper suggested that departments try to schedule electives later in the day and requirements during the “sweet spot”

 

IV. Meeting adjourned at 1:00pm. Next scheduled meeting is March 14, 2008.
