Summary
Faculty members may require the use of supplemental
textbooks, workbooks, or other printed materials in addition
to the adopted rental textbook for undergraduate courses.
There is no limit on the number of supplemental text per
course; however, all supplemental printed materials must
have the approval of the Department Head or Dean. Faculty,
Department Heads and Deans should be considerate of the
financial demands that purchases of supplemental texts,
workbooks, and other printed materials impose on students.
Care should be given to assure that the use of a
supplemental text and other printed materials in a course
justifies their expense to the students.
Graduate students must purchase all their texts
regardless of the level of the courses. Textbooks for
courses numbered 500 and above are available at the
Bookstore. Textbooks for courses numbered below 500 are
available for purchase in the Book Rental Department.
The WCU Bookstore will order and stock supplemental
textbooks in response to order forms submitted by Faculty
members. Each semester, the Bookstore Manager will send a
letter to the Deans, Department Heads and Faculty members to
explain order procedures for supplemental/graduate textbooks
and other printed materials. This is done to solicit orders
and to specify response dates, which must be met to
accomplish order and delivery of books by the beginning of
the next school term.
Faculty Procedures for
Ordering Supplemental and Graduate Textbooks
Forms may be obtained from the WCU Bookstore or from the
Office of the Dean of each school. A copy is available for
download on the forms download page.
A completed Supplemental/Graduate Text Request is
REQUIRED for each supplemental/graduate textbook
ordered, whether it is a new order or an order from a previous
semester. There are no "standing orders", so books and
supplies must be reordered each semester. This form must be
signed by the Department Head, or the Dean if the Department
Head originated the request.
Telephone request for supplemental/graduate texts cannot be
processed until the WCU Bookstore receives the completed,
approved Supplemental/Graduate Text Request form.
A computer printout is sent to each Department Head
providing the information on books used in past semesters. The
number listed in the "Actual Enrollment" column is the
Bookstore's estimated enrollment. This is the number of books
which the Bookstore management recommends to have available,
based upon previous sales. If the number on the computer
printout is different from your number of estimated on the
Supplemental/Graduate Text Request form, please enter the
information which explains the need for adjustment in the
comments section. The computer printouts are for historical
information only. A completed Supplemental/Graduate Text
Request form is required for all new and reordered
supplemental/graduate textbooks each semester.
If special supplies (example: special art paper, blank lab
notebooks, quadrille notebooks, etc.) need to be stocked for
any course, please list the supplies on the
Supplemental/Graduate Text Request form or attach a list to
the form.

Faculty Desk Copies Request of
Supplemental and Graduate Texts
The primary source for desk copies is the publisher.
Textbook publishers usually will provide desk copies to
instructors who complete a standard desk copy request form
and mail it to the publisher. These request forms are
available in the WCU Bookstore. The WCU Bookstore will
supply desk copies to the instructor in the following
circumstance:
If a faculty member has sent request forms to the
publisher and the desk copy has not been received by the
beginning of the term for which the book is needed.
The WCU Bookstore will issue a desk copy on a "Textbook
Loan" form for an 8-week period at the beginning of the
semester. There will not be a charge for the loaned textbook
unless the book is not returned. If the textbook is not
returned, the department will be charged the textbook
replacement cost. If faculty member sends a request form to
a publisher and the publisher refuses to provide a desk
copy, the WCU bookstore will issue a desk copy to the
faculty member, and, if appropriate, will continue efforts
to acquire a copy from the publisher. If it is determined
that the publisher will not supply the requested desk copy,
the faculty member may retain the Bookstore's copy on an
extended loan basis |
