Dan Boyd holds a B.A. from Brandeis
University and an M.Phil. from Yale University. He is also
a nationally-certified and state-licensed massage therapist.
Carrie McLachlan is a Ph.D. candidate in Native American
history at the University of California, Riverside. She is
presently writing her dissertation on early Cherokee history.
She has a B.A. in English from Brigham Young University, an
M.A. in Religious studies from Indiana University, Bloomington,
and a second M.A. in American history from Western (where
she wrote her thesis on Cherokee Cosmology).
McLachlan's major field of study is Native American History,
with a minor field in Colonial History, and a teaching field
in Early Modern World History. She authored an article "Gihli,
The Dog in Cherokee Thought" which was published in Volume
XXIII of the Journal of Cherokee Studies. Her most recent
courses include Native American Religions; Southeastern Native
American Religions, and Eastern Religious Traditions.
Her hobbies include hiking and wishing she had time to go
camping and travel. She considers her husband and three children
to be the best of all possible (perfectible) persons.
Jeffrey Vickery holds a BA degree from Clemson University,
and both the M.Div. and Ph.D. degrees from the Southern Baptist
Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Dr. Vickery's dissertation
topic focused on the contributions from Asian Christian theologians
to a North American theological context. Currently, his writing
interests include the intersection of ethics and theology
in the local church, as well as issues related to the affirmation
of women in ministry. Jeffrey serves with Tonya Vickery as
co-pastors of Cullowhee Baptist Church. He is also a marathon
runner, having completed his tenth marathon this April at
the 108th running of the Boston Marathon.
Elizabeth
Walden earned her B.A. in Sociology at Hanover College
in Indiana; and her M.A. in Theology at Andover Newton Theological
School in Massachusetts with a specialty in Diversity Studies.
She teaches Women in Religion for the Philosophy and Religion
Department. In her free time she enjoys playing her ukulele
and hiking with her husband, Asher, and her son, Gabriel.
Asher Walden earned his B.A. in Philosophy
from the University of Chicago; and his M.A. in Theological
Research at Andover Newton Theological School in Massachusetts
with a specialty in Pragmatic Philosophy & Liberation
Theology. At Western he teaches Eastern Religious Traditions
and American Wilderness Ethics and Esthetics. When he isn’t
playing with his awesome son Gabriel or hanging out with his
wife Beth, Asher likes to read Confucian Philosophy and sit
Zen Meditation.
