Environmental Science
Where students are the solution

Western Carolina University has a long history of teaching, research, and service in the environmental sciences. In fact, many of our alumni are practicing scientists working in jobs related to the environment in government agencies, private consulting firms, and non-profit organizations.
For students interested in majoring in Environmental Science, Western offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science that incorporates courses from four programs in the College of Arts and Sciences and a program in the College of Applied Sciences that all combine to form a unique approach to studying the environment.
The Environmental Science Program is an interdisciplinary program housed in the College of Arts and Sciences. It is administered by a Director and Committee of faculty from the Chemistry/Physics Department, Biology Department, Geoscience/Natural Resources Management Department, and the Environmental Health Department.
