Adams
Mary Adams directs the WCU Literary Festival.
She has worked as a computer consultant at CBS/Fox
Video and an editorial assistant
for The Iowa Review. She is the
author of Epistles from the Planet Photosynthesis,
a book of poems. Her honors include a $20,000
award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Her specialties include Poetry Writing, Writing
for Electronic Environments, and a range of literature
courses.
Rick
Boyer
Rick Boyer is the author of The Giant Rat of
Sumatra and seven other suspense novels, including
his Doc Adams series. He wrote the best-selling
nonfiction guide to life in the U.S., Places
Rated, and has appeared on The Today Show, PM
Magazine, and 20/20. He specializes in Fiction Writing
and Writing for the Professions.
Catherine
Carter
Catherine Carter teaches English 401 and English
309 (Poetry Writing). She directs the English
Education program and is an accomplished Poe scholar.
Her book of poems, The Memory of Gills,
was published by LSU Press and has been nominated
for the Pulitzer Prize.
Deidre Eliot is the author of several works of
nonfiction. One of her many specialties is environmental
nonfiction and literature.
Terry Curtis Fox is a professional
Hollywood screenwriter and producer whose film and
television credits include Hill Street Blues,
JAG, The Hunger and Stargate SG-1.
Mr. Fox teaches a series of screenwriting courses
that culminate, in the Junior or Senior year, in
a completed, production-ready script. He also teaches
film studies courses that focus on important directors.
Brian
Gastle
Brian Gastle has published an online technical writing
study guide for Prentice Hall, taught business writing
to employees of MBNA and DuPont, and edited university
reaccreditation reports and state education web
sites. He specializes in Writing for the Professions
and Writing for Electronic Environments.
Ken
Price
Dr. Price earned his Ph.D. from the University
of North Texas. He specializes in technical writing
theory and practice, particularly computer documentation,
information design, online publishing, scientific
and technical editing, and technology and discourse.
Dr. Brian Railsback earned his BS
(Journalism) from California Polytechnic, San Luis
Obispo; MA (Creative Writing) and PhD (American
Literature) from Ohio University. He is the Dean
of the Honors College at WCU, and has published
a critical book (Parallel Expeditions: Charles Darwin
and the Art of John Steinbeck, University of Idaho
Press). He is co-editor of A John Steinbeck Encyclopedia
(Greenwood Press, 2002). Dr. Railsback also writes
fiction ( The
Darkest Clearing, High Sierra Books, 2004) and
teaches fiction writing.
Ron Rash is the Parris Distinguished
Professor of Appalachian Literature.His poetry and
fiction have been published in more than 80 journals
and magazines, and, in addition to the novel One
Foot in Eden, he is author of two collections
of short stories and three collections of poetry.
His novel, Saints at the River, was a Together
We Read selection. His work has won several prestigeous
awards and has been nominated for a Pulitzer prize.
