Meet professional filmmakers

Western Carolina University has made a 3-year commitment to participate in the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival held in Durham, NC. A noted documentary filmmaker visits Western for a screening and discussion (in 2006, Rachel Boynton will visit with her film, Our Brand is Crisis), and select students travel to the festival for screenings, panels and workshops with acclaimed documentarians like Michael Moore and Morgan Spurlock.

Add media literacy to your resume

Employers are searching for graduates with communication skills, and the ability to understand visual texts. A Motion Picture Studies major or minor will add an important dimension to your resume.

Get production experience

Students can learn film and television production skills by taking classes in Western’s Communication, Theater Arts and Dance department.
