Careers
The study of language and literature gives an
understanding of the relationship between art and life and the
world in which we live. Literature gives one the ability to
think critically and objectively, to write clearly and effectively.
A concentration in Literature prepares English
majors for an array of specialized careers. Banks, schools,
hospitals, corporations, government, industries, public relations
offices, newspaper offices, social work areas, publishing
companies, advertisement agencies, small businesses, and professions
like law and public service need critical readers and writers.
The potential for career growth is excellent
and job outlook is good, because literature gives you the
skills employers want most: sensitivity to language, ability
to write and communicate clearly and persuasively, and insight
into processes of creative thinking and feeling.
