The Master of Arts (M.A.)
in English aims to develop a student's knowledge of English and
American literary history and works, critical and interpretive abilities,
and writing and research skills. Students
can take courses for the M.A. in three concentrations:
- Literature
- Professional Writing
- Rhetoric and Composition
The Master of Arts in Teaching
(M.A.T.) is designed for individuals seeking graduate
training in order to enhance their ability to teach English at the
secondary level.
The Master of Arts in Education
(M.A.Ed.) allows the student to choose an area of specialization:
Two-year College Teaching and Educational Supervision.
Western also offers the M.A., M.A.T., and M.A.Ed. in TESOL, preparing Teachers of English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
