PRINT + BOOK ARTS OVERVIEW
The printmaking facility at WCU allows students to work in a variety of print media. The shop offers two large etching presses, a Charles Brand lithography press and a Vandercook proofing press.  Additional areas include a screenprinting darkroom, as well as dedicated spaces for screen washout and acid ventilation. The adjoining book arts area has a small facility for letterpress printing from metal type and photopolymer plates, as well as a clean workspace for papermaking, paper preparation and book-binding.

Undergraduate students may take classes in printmaking and book arts as electives or as part of a concentration in the BA or BFA programs in StudioArt.* Students in printmaking learn both traditional and experimental processes as they develop personal imagery. Students in book arts explore the use of the book as an artist's medium, including methods for making books by hand, as well as concepts related to the book as a format for images and ideas. In addition to producing their studio work, students are expected to participate in critiques, and engage in reading and research to place their work within the context of both historical and contemporary practice.

*Graduate students in the MAT, MAEd and MFA programs may take classes in printmaking and book arts by special arrangement
