At the core of Master of Fine Arts study at Western Carolina University is the relationship between motivated emerging artists accepted into the MFA program and the experience of professional faculty. Graduate students benefit from these internationally respected artists and critics who challenge their ideas and provoke their individual visions.

The facilities for the MFA program are contained within WCU's Graham Gund-designed Fine and Performing Arts Center. The complex reflects the architect’s vision of contemporary culture within the context of the unique natural geography of the southern Appalachian Mountains. The complex contains large individual and group studios equipped for MFA study as well as a technological infrastructure to support electronic media and certain studio processes. The center also contains a contemporary fine arts museum and theater.
