artist statement - Kelledy Francis
In my work I strive to find an all-inclusive hybrid media—one which moves and stimulates all senses and takes advantage of techniques old and new. The aesthetic and decision making is influenced by a broad range of movements and inspirations. The colors on parakeets, the sound of power lines in the quiet country, the Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven, the techniques of old world tailoring and the amazing possibilities of a digicam and photoshop are a few things I’ve been obsessed with as of late.
I enjoy the MFA program at WCU because the schedule allows me the flexibility to travel and explore. Though we don’t have to be in school during fall and spring semesters, I still feel as if I am involved in an intense community of artists. Getting to know the other students and the faculty during the summer session was a unique experience that challenged my previous notions of art making. |
