artist statement - Karen L Dunn
Is there a way to write with the image as subtle and precise as written language? I do not know. I seek this. To that end, I disrupt/puncture imagery in time.
I aim to subvert the established hierarchies between authors and recipients.
Blur the boundaries between makers and viewers.
The screen.

More and more of our time is taken up by the image framed by the screen. What we choose to put into it. What lies just beyond it. What a conscious framing implies.
What do I choose to consider – a small artifact? The polis?
Is there a new narrative? What is post the post-modern?
Do the new tools, technologies herald the new mythologies?
I begin as if to begin again where once I was an image maker turned wordsmith turned maker of operas back to an image maker – the constant thread is in time. All being is being in time. Can I blur and converge lines in contemporary culture with what was and will be? What interests me is this conversation.
Traversing, transecting, alternating perspectives
Of space time - Personal time - Corporate time - Memory time - Still time
Out of context recontextualizing breaks in a continuum
Just beyond the frame.
