Mathematics & Computer Science:
The Job Outlook

Why Major in Mathematics, Math Education, or Computer Science?

What happens to graduates of these programs? Plenty, answers Department Head Harold Williford. Western's Mathematics Education majors teach all over the country. Computer Science majors work for businesses and computer firms like Oracle and Microsoft, or they start companies of their own.

Mathematics majors work for government agencies or perform efficiency consulting at companies like United Parcel Service. "What's true about the 'liberal arts' is especially true for us," Williford explains. "Employers want personnel who can solve problems, analyze situations, and put ideas together. Logical reasoning--that's what we're all about."
