GEOGRAPHY

INTRODUCTION TO GEOGRAPHY AT WCU

Geography is the science of locational analysis. As scientists observing earth phenomena, geographers will ask, Where is it? Why is it there? What is it like? Why is its location important? Geographers study climates, soils, landforms, water resources, farming, manufacturing, cities, religions, languages, and transportation.

Students taking geography courses at Western Carolina University can earn credit in liberal studies or in certain degree programs, and will gain a unique global perspective of people and their environment.

The unique environment of western North Carolina offers many opportunities for students to carry out local field studies, whether they be in urban, rural or physical/environmental areas. Students are also encouraged to experience and study in other parts of the state, country and world. Field trips and individual study are available to broaden the students' horizons.
