A project providing
a new home for the Art Department, with space for 300 plus students
and faculty in classrooms, offices, studios, galleries, and workspace.
This facility will also contain a 1,000-seat auditorium equipped for
music, theatrical, and dance performances that will be one of the
finest of its kind in the southeastern U.S. The project is supported
by monies provided for planning by the N.C. State Assembly and a $24,300,000
allocation from the Bond Funds. We anticipate a first-rate facility
that will help us serve the people of North Carolina and beyond through
the fine and performing arts. Anticipated completion date: December

After extensive
renovation McKee Building had its ribbon-cutting ceremony on November
21, attended by representatives of the N.C. Legislature, members of
the Board of Trustees, and Chancellor Bardo. As of August 2003 it
is occupied by four departments in Arts and Sciences: Anthropology
and Sociology, History, Modern Foreign Languages, and Social Work.
It provides up-to-date, technology-enhanced classrooms for these departments
as well as others in the college. Departmental and faculty offices
for the three departments mentioned above as well as a modern language
laboratory/electronic classroom are located in McKee. An allocation
of $5,289,700 from the Bond Funds undergirded the McKee renovation
project. |

It is one of the largest, most complex, over-crowded, and intensively-used

entering the planning stage under architectural guidance, construction
will begin in 2004, and completion is anticipated in 2005. |
