Admission Requirements
Students
must be formally admitted into the Athletic Training Education Program,
a requirement which promotes quality education and ensures exceptional
opportunities for hands-on learning under the supervision of a certified
athletic trainer. Application is typically made during the second semester
at WCU. Early exposure to the athletic training profession is emphasized,
with students gaining valuable prerequisite classroom and clinical experience
in their initial two semesters.
In
order to qualify for admission to the Athletic Training Education Program,
students must meet the following criteria:
- Successfully
complete HSCC 150: Introduction to Athletic Training with a grade of
C+ or higher
- Complete
a minimum of fifty (50) hours of Athletic Training observation at WCU
or one of its approved affiliate clinical sites under the direct supervision
of an Approved Clinical Instructor.
- Overall
GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Successfully
complete the ATEP Admission Examination
Requirements
for admission to the Athletic Training Education Program include submission
of the following materials:
- Completed
WCU Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) Application
- Two Letters
of Recommendation from WCU Approved Clinical Instructors
- One Letter
of Recommendation from any of the following:
College Instructor / Professor
Clinical Instructor / Supervisor
Academic Advisor
Allied Health or Medical Professional
- Completed
WCU ATEP Physical Examination Form (not required for admission, must
be completed prior to August 1st)
- Immunization
Record
- Hepatitis B Vaccination Series (must have second injection prior to August 1) or Signed Waiver
- Verification
of Negative TB Test or Negative Chest X-Ray since January 1st of year
of application
- Official
Academic Transcripts of all institutions attended (other than WCU)
- Signed

Athletic Training Handbook Statement

Statement of General Requirements for ATEP
Deadline
for applying to the Athletic Training Education Program is December 15th for early admission, or April 15th for regular admission.
