Admission & Graduation

Admission Requirements:

Students who pursue the Master of Health Sciences degree must be officially admitted to graduate study at Western Carolina University. Some admission criteria include:

• Cumulative grade point average of "B" or higher in all upper-level undergraduate course work.
• Satisfactory scores on the verbal, quantitative and analytical portions of the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
• Recommendations from instructors or employers who are able to judge aptitude for graduate study.

Admission Procedure:

Applicants to the program must submit a complete application for admission according to procedures stated in The Record: Graduate Catalog Issue. Application forms and materials are available from the:

Students wishing to apply for admission to the Dietetic Internship must be admitted to the MHS program, be enrolled in or have taken ND 439/539, and complete a separate Dietetic Internship application for competitive admission. For further information, contact Teresa Breedlove, MS, RD, LDN.

Matriculation and Graduation Information:

• The program is intended primarily for part-time students; most courses are taught in the evenings in Asheville, NC.
• Continuous enrollment is required during the academic year (excluding summer) until degree requirements are completed or a leave of absence is approved.
• Students must meet all Western Carolina University requirements for continued matriculation as a student in good standing and for graduation; refer to The Record: Graduate Catalog Issue for the current regulations.
