Who am I?
As the Minority Recruiter and Diversity Officer in the Undergraduate Admission Office,
I am leading our campaign to recruit greater numbers of American Indian, Alaskan Native,
Black, Latino, Asian or Pacific Islander, Multiracial, and International students,
as well as our other historically underrepresented groups and populations. I think
that Maya Angelou explained diversity so succinctly when she said, “we all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand
that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.” We have to be able to understand and accept that each individual is unique, and
it is this uniqueness that makes us who we are. I sincerely believe the key to diversity
is being patient enough to embrace and celebrate the distinct differences in all of
us.
Why Western?
