Who am I?
My hometown is Statesville, N.C., by way of Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Georgia,
that is. I graduated from West Iredell High School in 1998 and from Western in 2003,
where I earned a bachelor’s degree in recreational therapy. I worked as a recreational
therapist for three and a half years until I felt the tug of higher education administration.
For the past year, I’ve worked here in the Admission Office where I enjoy speaking
to people about my time as a student at Western.
Why Western?
I chose Western because of the variety of academic programs, mountain location, and
affordability. I must admit I didn’t know what I wanted to study when I first arrived
on campus, but I was confident Western would help cultivate me into a better person
by involvement in and out of the classroom. This place didn’t let me down! I got involved
with Last Minute Productions, a student-run media outfit, and held several offices
in a Greek-letter fraternity. I also served as a student representative for the local
and state recreational therapy associations (I’m now a member-at-large). Western’s
faculty and staff were great supporters of my personal quest for excellence as a student,
and now as an adult.
