Graduate Student Research and Creative Projects Stipend
(Non-Work Study Employment)
- Twenty graduate students may be selected for this award
- Each will receive $1,000 for approximately 50 hours of work in the Spring 2013 semester
- Students must be supported/mentored by a graduate faculty member and project must be related to the program of study
- Applications must be submitted electronically to efrazier@wcu.edu
- Due Date: Monday, January 21, 2013
- Students selected will be announced no later than February 4th , 2013
- Subcommittee reviews and ranks applications and supplies the Graduate School with a list of ranking
- The Graduate School and students complete hiring paperwork to go to Career Services
Graduate Student Research and Creative Projects Stipend:
Eligibility
- Minimum GPA 3.0
- Must have been enrolled for at least 1 semester (have a minimum of 6 credit hours completed)
- Resident credit programs only
- May be used for new or ongoing research or creative projects (to include thesis/dissertation research)
- Current graduate assistants are also eligible
Application Process
Application materials must include in the following order:
- A description of the research or creative project (Should be 2-3 pages, single spaced, minimum 10 pt. font)
- Purpose of the project
- In addition, articulate the relationship between the project and the student’s program of study
- Background information
- Information needed for the committee to understand the project (e.g. literature review or project context)
- Methodology or proposed activities
- Procedures, participants, instruments, apparatus, or equipment to be used
- Significance of the research/work to be accomplished
- Importance of research/activity in the discipline
- Impact on the continued development of a scholarly agenda
- Plans for dissemination of results
- Will this study lead to a presentation, publication, grant…etc.? (For example, submission to the Graduate Research Symposium in March 2013)
- Timeline for completion
Note: If approval is required for use of animals or human subjects in the project, then please note in the description.- A “Statement of Support” written by the graduate faculty mentor (maximum 1 page, single spaced) that addresses the following:
- Student’s ability to complete project in 1 semester
- Student’s precise role or duties in the research or activity
- Relationship between the project and the student’s program of study
- Student’s likelihood of disseminating results as specified
