University Scholar Award

The University Scholar Award is designed to recognize research and creative activities. This award is given to a faculty member who has achieved a position of prominence in his or her discipline through creative research activities. Examples of distinguished achievements include research, publications, grant receipts, art exhibitions, works of art, fine arts performances, and literary works.

Award

  •  $1,000 and engraved plaque
  • Awarded at Spring Convocation
  • Applications should be submitted online (Letters of support may be mailed directly to the graduate school or included in the packet).

Eligible

  • Full-time tenured or tenure track instructional, research, or library faculty
  • Has been employed at Western Carolina University for at least 3 years
  • Has not received the award in the past 5 years
  • Does not hold an administrative position above Department Head level

Application

  • Due Date:  Monday, January 21, 2013 
  • Application must contain:
    1. Curriculum vitae
    2. Narrative concerning the scholarly/research contribution at Western Carolina University (No more than 5 pages, single spaced, minimum 10 point font)
    • Describe the research activities at WCU
    • Describe the overall impact of the research
    • Describe how research efforts have contributed to the overall community and scholarship at the university
    • Describe efforts for a continued scholarly agenda
    • May include the contributions to the education and scholarly developments of students
    • one internal letter of support
    • one external letter of support

    Evaluation

    • An Awards Subcommittee of the Research Council will review the portfolios and transmit a recommendation through the Dean of Graduate School and Research to the Chancellor.
