Study Abroad Tables
At the beginning of each semester, IPS sponsors Study Abroad Information Tables from
11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in various campus buildings. Students returning from study
abroad are invited to spend an hour or so during that week talking to interested students.
If you are interested in participating contact John Schweikart or Josie Bewsey.
Open Houses
IPS is represented each semester at Western's open houses for prospective students.
Students and parents inquiring about study abroad find it useful to speak to study
abroad returnees. For more info, contact John Schweikart or Josie Bewsey in the IPS office.
International Festival
Study Abroad information is available at the annual International Festival held every
April. Students interested in sharing their study abroad experiences on that day can
contact John Schweikart or Josie Bewsey in the IPS office.
Speaking To Classes
During International Education Week, faculty make requests for particular subjects
about cultures, peoples, geographical information, etc. to be taught in their classes. The
office of International Programs and Services works with the international students,
faculty, and community to organize classroom visits. This is a very effective method
of internationalizing the WCU campus and surrounding communities.
The K-12 International Outreach Program works in this very same manner, except that K-12 teachers make the requests and international students, faculty or staff visit local schools here in Western North Carolina. This program is funded through the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
To request an international student, faculty, staff member, or community member to visit your classroom, please contact the Office of International Programs and Services at 828-227-7494.
