Western is the home of the Delta Zeta chapter of Phi Beta Delta. Through the organizational
efforts of Dr. Robert Gurevich, the chapter was founded on April 6, 1998 with an induction
ceremony of its founding members.
Phi Beta Delta's Delta Zeta Chapter is the only campus organization that includes students, faculty and staff in its membership. Its aim is to recognize and encourage high professional, intellectual and personal achievements in international educational activities. The Chapter serves as a means of encouraging interdisciplinary and intergenerational contacts and promoting the exchange of ideas and information in the area of international affairs among students, faculty and staff of the University community and between it and other academic institutions.
The Delta Zeta Chapter sponsors yearly events such as the monthly International Brown Bag Luncheons, the weekly International Socials, and other international speakers. Delta Zeta members support International Education Week and International Festival activities each year. Members of the Delta Zeta chapter are also eligible to apply for the annual Phi Beta Delta Travel Grant for international research and study. The Delta Zeta chapter has won two national Phi Beta Delta best chapter awards in the past 5 years.
PBD RUSH WEEK
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
October 31-November 4, 2011
For the Week of October 31-November 4, the Delta Zeta Chapter of the Honorary Society for International Scholars: Phi Beta Delta is sponsoring Phi Beta Delta Rush Week to encourage previous active members to renew their membership and for all interested WCU Faculty, Staff, and Students to apply to join this organization.
Phi Beta Delta is an academic and professional society that is wholly unique because it is resolutely interdisciplinary and international in its focus. Its formal organization brings together numerous pre-existing internally-oriented campus groups. Its goals are:
- recognize the scholarly achievement of international students and scholars, who have studied abroad and faculty and staff who are involved in international activities;
- serve as a vehicle for the development of academic-based international programming;
- provide a network on each campus of faculty, staff and students involved in international endeavors; and
- extend this network to thousands of members in chapters throughout the world.
Phi Beta Delta's Delta Zeta Chapter at WCU is the only campus organization that includes students, faculty and staff in its membership. Its aim is to recognize and encourage high professional, intellectual and personal achievements in international educational activities.
As a special incentive for inactive members and prospective new members to become active in the Delta Zeta Chapter-all new and re-activating members who apply to join Phi Beta Delta during this “Rush Week” will receive a FREE Phi Beta Delta shirt with a beautifully embroidered rendering of our coat of arms. Note that these free high-quality shirts come in a variety of styles and colors- so be sure to apply soon to get the size/color/and style you want!
Another “perk” of being a member of Phi Beta Delta is the honor of being able to wear your membership medallion at all WCU commencement ceremonies.
In addition, all re-activating and new members will be invited to the Delta Zeta Chapter’s Induction Ceremony and Supper scheduled for the evening of Monday, November 14, 2011.
