What makes this program special?
WCU’s College of Business is accredited by AACSB International, which ensures quality
and promotes excellence and continuous improvement in undergraduate and graduate education
for Business Administration and Accounting. Each Marketing major is personally assisted
by a Marketing faculty member who helps with class schedules, career counseling and
placement, and any day-to-day academic problems that may arise.
Are there any additional admission requirements?
No additional requirements are necessary beyond being accepted to WCU.
What scholarship monies are available?
All students are considered for merit-based scholarships at the time of admission.
Additional scholarships are available based on FAFSA information. The Marketing program
in particular has several scholarships available ranging from $500 to $1,000.
What will I be able to do with this degree when I graduate?
Careers in sales and marketing have been identified by the U.S. Department of Labor
as offering high growth employment in recent years. By selecting the Marketing major,
students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to be successful in a variety
of marketing careers, including product management, professional sales, sports marketing,
advertising, retailing, market research, entrepreneurship, consulting/training, product
development and sales management. In recent years, WCU’s Marketing graduates have
secured attractive positions with a variety of top companies such as Xerox, Lucent
Technologies, Hughes Supply and Prudential Financial services.
What are the professors like?
All Marketing professors hold doctoral degrees in Marketing from major U.S. universities,
or similar academic and professional qualifications. In addition, each of the Marketing
faculty have extensive experience working for and/or consulting with businesses and
organizations in a variety of industries, including telecommunications; computer technologies;
chemical, automotive, and consumer products; retailing; distribution; health care;
governmental and professional services. The emphasis throughout the Marketing curriculum
is on application-oriented, experiential learning. Each semester, Marketing professors
partner with a variety of businesses to bring examples of current marketing problems
to the classroom. In a combined effort, the students, professors and business partners
work to find practical solutions to these various business problems. During the summer,
a variety of internships are available to Marketing students. These opportunities
complement the application-oriented approach developed in the classroom as well as
provide valuable experience in a business setting.
What are the students in the program doing?
Marketing students work with non profits and local businesses to develop marketing
plans and strategies. Students also participate in the National Collegiate Sales Competition.
Additionally, students participate in internship and cooperative educational opportunities
under the supervision of departmental faculty. By working in local businesses and
companies, many students gain valuable, practical and real-world experiences and are
offered full-time employment upon their graduation.
Will I be able to participate in internships, clubs and other extracurricular opportunities?
The College of Business has several student organizations that are very involved in
professional development.
