Nurse Educator Professional Development Workshops
Online workshops offer participants many advantages including convenience, quality,
just-in-time delivery and high quality content. Participants in online learning often
find they must be self-motivated and self disciplined. These workshops are designed
to meet the new NC Board of Nursing requirements for nurse educators. The workshops
are 100% online and asynchronous, allowing the participant to be online at their convenience.
The workshops are offered every two months and participants have three weeks to complete
the required 15 hours of participation. Nurses may sign up for the workshops individually
or concurrently.

About Your Instructors:
- Dr. Judy Neubrander is Director of Graduate Nursing Programs and Interim Associate Dean at Western Carolina University. She holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership: Adult Education from North Carolina State University.
- Professor Andrew Alvero is an adjunct faculty member and an experienced nurse educator.

Teaching and LearningThis course will focus on adult learning techniques and strategies for teaching. Nurses will develop skills for teaching in both the academic and professional development format. 15 contact hours.

Curriculum Development
This course focuses on curriculum development including theories, taxonomies, and
curriculum design. Students will learn all phases of curriculum development including
mission, vision and conceptual framework, and internal and external factors. 15 contact
hours. Curriculum Development explores the development of nursing curriculum, curriculum
components, current research in curriculum development and curriculum evaluation.

Test and Measurement
Students will explore evaluation, measurement and the educational process. Additionally,
students will learn quality test construction, evaluation of higher level learning,
critical think and NCLEX preparation strategies. Clinical Evaluations and legal issues
will also be discussed. 15 contact hours.

Completion of the online workshops can be used as an elective in the Master’s degree
program in Nursing Education. Students must pay both the workshop fee and the appropriate
