Well, folks, knowing the main part of our website presents all the serious details of our curriculum and activities for the week, Miss Lois asked me to do this photo story on the “social” side of our week.

So here goes…

After check-in, our week began with an Orientation, a delicious barbecue buffet…

and the “Herdim” Awards, at which participants tried to identify interesting, little-known facts about each other. Here Gail Findlay and “table social professor” Pete Ellertsen conduct some awards… (Gail’s interesting fact was that as a teenager in Memphis she was whistled at by Elvis!)

The week was off to a strong start, with a staff of outstanding instructors, like Bill Taylor…

a
and a great group of participants, who set off right away making BEAUTIFUL music together…

However, into each week a little rain must fall, for example when Betty Smith and her friends cut up on the shuttle bus…

no doubt inspired by Wayne Seymour and Ray Owens…

who, despite their apparent seriousness, are acknowledged instigators, known to be founding members of that marauding band of minstrels, the “Banditos”…

After these minor disturbances, our stalwart participants like those in Gary Gallier’s class continued to excel in their classes…

Pete Ellertsen proved to be a most worthy recipient of our ’04 Appalachian Dulcimer Tranditions Scholarship. He is seen here with Debbie Zoerner, winner of the Sally George Dulcimer Teacher’s Scholarship.

He and Debbie set fashion trends at WCU Mountain Dulcimer Week, inspiring many to wear fashions featuring tropical and floral motifs…

As the week progressed into Wednesday afternoon, participants enjoyed mid-week “chill-out” classes, which included a class in Clogging with Flora MacDonald Gammon…

and a session on Scottish country dancing with Flora and John Dall,

in yoga with Barbara Goergen,

experiencing a “Kazoo Happening” with Hutch Hutchinson,

and taking part in a “Dulcimer Meets Sitar” class with Joe Ridolfo.
