Online with some Face-to-Face workshops
Western Carolina University’s Financial Planner Certificate Program is registered with Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. (CFP Board). As a CFP Board-Registered Program, our courses satisfy CFP Board’s education requirement, allowing an individual to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination.

Courses will meet online with 3 required face-to-face meetings per class. The complete certificate program consists of six courses: The first 2 courses as shown below are registered for at the same time. The other 4 can be taken separately. The online class will start one week prior to the first scheduled meeting. Face-to-face classes will meet at the new Biltmore Park location at 28 Schenck Parkway, Ste 300, in Asheville, NC on Wednesday evenings from 4pm to 7pm.

• Intro to Financial Planning and Risk Management
     Online class begins February 27. Class meetings on March 6, 20 & 27, 2013
• Investment Planning 
     Online class begins April 3. Class meetings on April 10, 24 and May 8, 2013
• Retirement Planning
     Online class begins June 5. Class meetings on June 12, 26 and July 17, 2013
• Estate Planning 
     Online class begins July 24. Class meetings on July 31, Aug. 14 and 28, 2013
• Income Tax Planning
     Online class begins September 11. Class meetings on Sept. 18 & Oct. 2 and 16, 2013 
• Capstone Case Writing
     Online class begins October 30. Class meetings on November 6, 20 and Dec.4

Students will be expected to spend at least 25 hours per course online.

Director
Grace C. Allen, Ph.D is an associate professor of finance at Western Carolina University. She is the director of the financial planning degree and certificate programs at Western. In addition to being the director of the program, she teaches extensively in the financial planning program. At Western Carolina she has received the Board of Governors Excellence in Teaching Award, Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award, twice received the Jay I. Kneedler Teaching Award and three times received an Innovative and Creative Teaching Award. She is currently involved in research in the areas of financial planning and international business.
