Welcome to the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Whether you are interested in entering the world of cutting-edge technology, teaching mathematics at the high school level, or continuing your graduate studies, we are here to help you on your journey.
We are committed to excellence in teaching and we are student focused. Our faculty members are highly qualified, active scholars interested in working with you to reach your academic goals.
We offer undergraduate majors in mathematics, mathematics education, and computer science; minors in mathematics and computer science; and graduate degrees in mathematics and mathematics education.
Our first focus is in the classroom, but we build upon the classroom experience by giving students opportunities to experience undergraduate research and professional field experiences. Every year students present their research work in conferences including annual conferences of the Mathematical Association of America and of the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Our mathematics education students participate in student internships in the public
schools. Many of our computer science students choose to work in the summer for academic
credit in internships with companies, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.
