The interdisciplinary Appalachian Studies minor gives you access to experts from a variety of University departments. Comprised of courses from a range of fields of study—from history to folklore to biology—the minor will bring you to broaden your understanding of the Appalachian region as you pursue your studies at Western.

Opportunities for field-based and experiential learning abound. Conducting research outdoors to preserve our beautiful mountain environment, talking with Cherokee tradition bearers, and learning traditional crafts and music from authentic performers are just some of the possibilities available to Appalachian Studies minors.
