Welcome to the Department of Communication. The faculty and staff of the department are committed to giving our Western Carolina University students an excellent educational experience. In addition to their academic credentials, many of the department’s faculty bring years of extensive professional experience to the classroom.
Just as Western Carolina University is a selective university, so is the Department of Communication. Students wishing to declare a major in communication must have a minimum 2.75 overall GPA. Each year, approximately 75 to 85 students earn their degree within the department. Currently, almost 200 students major in communication.
Our facilities are equipped with the latest technology in order to provide students with marketable, up-to-the-minute skills. In addition to a solid academic background, each student participates in a professional internship in their chosen field. In fact, many of our students leave WCU and immediately enter the most sought-after fields, often in major markets, thanks to their internship experiences.
