The awardee will be chosen on the basis of academic qualifications, overall achievements, and financial need. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors; however, first-year students and sophomores with exceptional ability will be considered. One (1) award to a chemistry major from one of the following western mountain counties: Madison, Buncombe, Henderson, Haywood, Transylvania, Jackson, Swain, Macon, Graham, Clay, or Cherokee.
